Biography

Ori Yehudai holds a PhD in history from the University of Chicago. His research focuses on modern Jewish history, with particular emphasis on Zionism and the State of Israel, migration and displacement, transnational humanitarianism and the post-Holocaust reconstruction of the Jewish world.

He is currently working on a book manuscript tentatively titled “Leaving Zion: Jewish Emigration from Palestine and Israel, 1945-1967.” His article ‘Displaced in the National Home: Jewish Repatriation from Palestine to Europe, 1945-1948,’ recently appeared in Jewish Social Studies. His next major research project will be a study of non-Jewish immigration to Palestine and Israel.

His work has been recognized by the American Council of Learned Societies, the YIVO Institute for Jewish Research, the Israel Institute in Washington, DC, the American National Endowment for the Humanities and the Wiener Library in London.

His teaching interests include Jewish history, history of Modern Israel, the Arab-Israeli conflict and Jewish migration.
