Biography

Michelle Murphy is Professor of History and Women and Gender Studies and is the Canadian Research Chair in Science and Technology Studies and Environmental Data Justice. She is a historian and science and technology studies scholar who researches and theorizes about colonialism and pollution; Indigenous technoscience; data and infrastructures; sexed and raced life; reproductive justice; and economics, capitalism and financialization. She is Director of the Technoscience Research Unit and the Environmental Data Justice Lab. She has graduate appointments at Faculty of Information, as well as the School of Environment. In addition, she has graduate appointments in Science and Technology Studies and the Faculty of Environmental Studies at York University. Professor Murphy has a PhD in the History of Science from Harvard University (1998)
