Biography :

Professor Cochelin’s scholarly work investigates two distinct but complementary fields in socio-religious European history: medieval monasticism and premodern history of non-cloistered religious women. She is also interested in the history of service (female and male servants), as the overall focus of her research is on the history of the non-elite: understanding the life and agency of the majority, in any given group. She is presently working on various collaborative and inter-disciplinary projects with scholars in Europe and North America, including co-editing a book on monastic infirmaries and hospices in premodern Europe. In addition, she is co-directing two series at Brepols (Turnhout, Belgium): Disciplina Monastica and The Other Sister.
