Description

Join Professor Paul N. Edwards, Director of the Program on Science, Technology & Society at Stanford University, for a discussion on the concept of "techno-metabolism" and its impact on history and the environment in the Anthropocene. This talk will explore how technology compresses time, consuming energy and resources on a planetary scale, from Earth’s deep past through the Industrial Revolutions to today's rapid climate change. Edwards examines the challenges historians and scientists face in conceptualizing time scales and projecting futures amid the accelerated pace of technological change.
