Cecilia Morgan

As a social and cultural historian, Dr. Morgan's research interests are in the areas of gender, colonialism, and imperialism in the British Empire; the writing of Canadian history at a popular level in 19th- and 20th-century Ontario; and the links between gender, culture, and imperial identities. She has just published a book on the history of commemoration and memory in Canada, has another on that topic in press, and has submitted a manuscript on the history of settler societies in the British Empire, 1783-1920, for review.

Dr. Morgan is presently writing a book about the travels of 19th–century Indigenous and mixed-race people – performers, lecturers, missionaries, political petitioners, and students – from British North America and Canada to Britain, Europe, the United States, and Australia. This project explores the themes of gender, theatre and performance, and colonial relations and networks, both public and intimate, in the 19th-century transatlantic world. She also is researching a SSHRC-funded project, English-Canadian Actresses on Transnational and Imperial Stages, 1860s-1940s. She has presented a number of conference papers and published various articles from this research.
