Biography
Julia Cole is a doctoral candidate at the University of Toronto working under the supervision of Professor Isabelle Cochelin. She studies Fontevraud Abbey in the late medieval and early modern periods, focusing on the economic administration of the abbey in its extensive patrimonial lands. Julia’s research highlights the female authority exemplified at Fontevraud and the widows who appear in tax records, whose economic agency and collaboration form the basis of her dissertation thus far. Her research is supported by a doctoral fellowship from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada.
