Biography
Lief Dubin (he/him) is a PhD Candidate in the Department of History and the Anne Tanenbaum Centre for Jewish Studies, working under the supervision of Professor James Retallack. His research focuses on the development of nationalism and national identity among "ordinary" Württemberg Germans before and surrounding the German wars of unification, 1864-1871. His dissertation will work to understand how the common people of Württemberg (factory workers, peasants, etc.) came to identify themselves as "Germans" rather than simply "Württembergers" in the process of national unification.
