Description

Hannah Arendt's concept of solidarity lies at the heart of her work, influencing her perspectives on Christian neighborly love, friendship, Jewish assimilation, Zionism, National Socialism, the American Republic, Black Power, revolution, violence, and the human world. However, her notion of solidarity is complex and often contradictory. In this talk, Dr. Kim will explore how Arendt's identity as a white Jewish immigrant shaped her views, leading to the erasure of Native American experiences in her framework. The lecture draws on research from Dr. Kim's upcoming book, Arendt’s Solidarity: Anti-Semitism and Racism in the Atlantic World (Stanford University Press, 2024), available at 20% off with code DKIM20 at www.sup.org.
