A mock job talk, this presentation introduces Borsk's research agenda. Focused on rural histories of space and power in early North America, it covers his scholarship on surveyors, settler states, and property in the Great Lakes, as well as previews new research directions in environmental history and imperial political economy.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER:
Michael Borsk is an historian of early North America, with a focus on legal history, state formation, and settler-Indigenous relations in rural societies. He received his PhD from Queen's University in 2024, where he defended his: "Measuring Ground: Surveyors and the Properties of States in the Great Lakes Region, 1783-1840.
