Description
This presentation introduces ServicaisRegisters.org, a digital database I developed featuring registers I transcribed from the Arquivo Histórico Ultramarino in Portugal. It contains the names, origins, ages, and other details of over 18,000 serviçais (indentured workers) sent from Angola to São Tomé and Príncipe (1876-1896).
ABOUT THE SPEAKER:
Tracy Lopes is a postdoctoral fellow under the supervision of Dr. Stephen Rockel. Her research examines the movement of indentured labour from Angola to São Tomé and Príncipe in the late 19th century. She completed her PhD at York University, specializing in African history with a minor in African diaspora.
