Description

A year and a half of the most recent escalation of Israel’s genocide of the Palestinians has left history in ruins (see here and here). Alongside the specific targeting of hospitals, schools and other civic society infrastructure, we have seen deliberate destruction of archaeological and heritage sites, many of them going back millennia. But there are other ruins too. The ruins of disciplines for studying the past bound so tightly by coloniality that they found themselves unable to condemn this genocide, historicide and scholasticide. The ruins of subject associations that were unable to represent their members or to observe the boycott movements aimed at Israel’s apartheid regime, just as they were once aimed at other regimes of apartheid.
