The Animal Game: New Book by Dan Bender on the History of Zoos

Dan Bender, a history professor at the University of Toronto at Scarborough, has a new book exploring the history of zoos from the 1870s to the 1970s. In The Animal Game: Searching for Wildness at the American Zoo, Professor Bender looks at the public’s complex and at times troubling relationship with zoos, while also looking at zoos as spaces for animal conservation efforts.
