Histories in Progress: Writing and Teaching the Past as it Unfolds

February 17, 2017

Susie Colbourn and Erica Toffoli, PhD candidates in the Department of History, recently wrote a piece for Process: A Blog for American History called "Histories in Progress: Writing and Teaching the Past as it Unfolds". Colbourn, who studies NATO's debates over détente in the 1970s and 1980s, and Toffoli, who studies undocumented Latin American migration to the U.S. in the post-1965 period, have found renewed relevance in their dissertations with the election of U.S. President Donald Trump. In the piece, they focus on one central question: "How can—and should—historians separate their study of the past from what they see unfolding in real time?"

You can read the article on the Process blog.
