July 7, 2017 by Department of History Staff

As world leaders convene this week for the G20 Summit, Professor Jennifer Jenkins was invited on CTV News to talk about the G20 meeting and protests taking place in Hamburg, Germany. She also participated in a discussion with CTV News anchor Todd van der Heyden and CTV reporter Erin Paul. Professor Jenkins noted the diversity of the protests- peaceful and issue-oriented protestors there to voice dissent over income inequality, climate change and corporate power, and, anarchist-oriented protestors who have quite different aims. In addition, Professor Jenkins touched on the history of protest in Hamburg and in the larger German context as well as the history of protests at G20 meetings including the “battle in Seattle” in 1999 at a meeting of the World Trade Organization and the 2010 G20 Summit in Toronto, Canada.

Professor Jennifer Jenkins specializes in German and European history, and held a Canadian Research Chair in Modern German History.
